Kids’ Psychological Blackmailing Tactics

Children have a funny way of getting what they want and parents are often put in difficult situations because of this. I’m sure you’ve all seen children, with their parents, at the local supermarket, at the toy isle. Often, crying can be heard from there, and that’s just one of the numerous techniques children have at their disposal, to use when they see fit.

If parents refuse to give in, children bring out the heavy artillery. They refuse to move from the spot, and start crying even harder. There’s no reasoning with them, and if the toy they desire doesn’t end up in the shopping basket, then they don’t move an inch. To avoid embarrassment, people often buy their children whatever they want, spoiling them.

This has always been children’s way of getting sweets, toys, and lately, some more expensive, electronic gadgets. These days I have heard a kid crying his heart out over a certain electronic media player. All his parents’ attempts of “bribing” him with sweets, or some other toy were in vain, so, in no time at all, the Fuze Sansa mp3 player got into his possession.

Books on this subject have been written, and we strongly encourage parents to read them, in order to better understand how to deal with their children. Shouting at them is not the answer. Nor is hitting them, and you should never do that to your child. Psychologists have analyzed child behavior and have come up with simple solutions.

You may know your child, know how to cope with his fits of rage over getting something they want really bad at that moment, but reading what the specialist have to say on this might be useful, too. Until then, there’s no way out of buying that mp3 player your child wants so badly.
